Greensleeves Records is a record label based in the UK that specializes in reggae and dancehall music. The label was founded in 1977 by Chris Sedgwick and Chris Cracknell. From the outset, Greensleeves Records focused on the emerging Jamaican music scene in the UK, releasing records by artists such as Barrington Levy, Yellowman, Eek-a-Mouse, and Gregory Isaacs. In the 1980s, the label became a leading force in the UK reggae scene, with hits from artists like Shabba Ranks, Buju Banton, and Tenor Saw.
The label's success continued into the 1990s and beyond, with Greensleeves Records releasing music from a wide range of Jamaican artists, including Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, and Capleton. The label has also released numerous compilations, including the popular "Rhythm Album" series. Greensleeves Records has played a significant role in promoting and disseminating Jamaican music in the UK and around the world, and its impact on the reggae and dancehall scenes cannot be overstated. The company was bought by Zest Inc. in 2006 and in 2008 was bought by VP Records.
