STUDIO ONE

STUDIO ONE

Studio One is a Jamaican record label that was founded in 1963 by Clement "Coxsone" Dodd. It played a significant role in the development of ska, rocksteady, and reggae music in Jamaica, and became one of the most important labels in the history of Jamaican music. Coxsone Dodd was a prominent figure in the Jamaican music scene, and he had a keen ear for talent. He assembled a team of session musicians, including the legendary Skatalites, who would go on to become one of the most influential bands in Jamaican music history. Together, they recorded a vast amount of music at Studio One, often in a single take, giving the recordings a raw, spontaneous energy that became a hallmark of the label's sound.

Studio One was known for its commitment to quality, and its recordings were known for their clarity and warmth. The label released music from many of the biggest names in Jamaican music, including Bob Marley and the Wailers, Toots and the Maytals, Burning Spear, Dennis Brown, and many others. It also released recordings from lesser-known artists, helping to give them exposure and launching their careers.
