Greensleeves Records, the iconic London Reggae label, founded in 1977. Revered in the late '70s, '80s and '90s as the number one destination for both the sound of Jamaica, and for Caribbean-influenced black British music, Greensleeves created a distinct reputation as a pioneer in Dancehall music and the Rub-A-Dub style. Just like Motown or Blue Note it defined a genre yet remained firm in its mission to bring authentic Reggae to its fans. It declined to court the mainstream ensuring its cult status for years to come.
Many artists and prominent producers released on the label including Sister Nancy, JC Lodge, Lady G, Tanya Stephens, Deborahe Glasgow, Dr Alimantado, Augustus Pablo, Wailing Souls, Barrington Levy, Yellowman, Eek-A-Mouse, Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown, Freddie McGregor, Shabba Ranks, Shaggy, Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Mr Vegas, Red Rat, Elephant Man, Vybz Kartel, Henry ‘Junjo’ Lawes, Linval Thompson, King Jammy and Gussie Clarke. Today roots reggae star and dub mechanic Alborosie continues to release on the label.
