Reggae Bloodlines: The Reggae Photography of Peter Simon
PETER SIMON (1947-2018) began his career in photojournalism in the late 1960s, capturing the counterculture movement and iconic musicians of the era. He authored twelve books, including Reggae Bloodlines (1977) and Reggae International (1985). The 13 images included here being taken during the creation of those works. Immersing himself in Jamaican culture and reggae, Simon produced images that evoke deep emotions and tell vivid stories.
Simon's friendship with VP Records' founder, Pat Chin, started in the mid-1970s during one of Simon's trips to Jamaica documenting the music scene. At the time, Pat Chin ran Randy's Record Mart, a key retail and distribution hub in downtown Kingston. Their lasting association saw Simon's photography featured on album covers and in music publications, shaping the visual identity of reggae.
